About The Sunshine Club
The Sunshine Club was founded in 1902 by five Central School girls for the purpose of helping those in need in their community. It has continued ever since raising funds for local charitable projects primarily through its annual Sunshine Tea, the Sunshine Memorial Fund and financial gifts from members and the community.
It is Longmont’s oldest continuous philanthropic organization. During the early decades, the group addressed a variety of community needs, but during the 1930’s, the school nurse at one school reported that 78 percent of the students there needed dental work. The club found the philanthropic focus they would follow for the next eight decades.
